Do you listen to Catholic podcasts?

If you are wondering what a podcast is, check out wikipedia's definition. Searching today for the word 'Catholic' in the iTunes podcast directory returned 105 results. There are plenty of other Catholic-oriented podcasts available on other sites as well.

I found on Seraphim Beshoner's catholicpodcast.info a top 10 listing of Catholic podcasts according to Podcast Alley Seraphim posts a top 10 listing there regularly.

The top podcast is called Daily Breakfast, which is a 20-minute mix of music, news, movies, tv-series, videogames, history, health tips, inspiration, science fiction and more. Hosted by the Dutch catholic podcasting priest Fr. Roderick. I don't know where he gets time for his parishioners considering he has a total of 6(!) podcasts. I tried listening to the Daily Breakfast, but I'm more interested in discussion of faith than entertainment, so it didn't appeal to me.

There a number of them listed at Disciples with Microphones as well.

I'm still looking for a podcast that is a good balance of faith teaching, current faith events and a dash of humour. Maybe you can help me find a Catholic podcast that looks at living out the Catholic faith in our modern world.

So, I have a few questions for you:

  1. Do you listen to podcasts, or are thinking about trying some?
  2. If you do listen, what kinds of podcasts do you listen to?
  3. What would you like to hear in a Catholic podcast?
  4. Do you think the diocese of Sault Ste. Marie should try podcasting homilies of some of it's priests? You know, those priests that everyone says are gifted homilists. My pastor Fr. George at St. Gerard's is one of them. :) What woulld be some benefits of podcasting?

Well, I do listen to podcasts (of course, what kind of geek doesn't :P), but nothing of the religious nature. Mostly computer/hacker related things. On the subject of what I'd like to see in a religious podcast, well, it's not something I personally have an interest in. But, since I do have an interest in podcasts in general, here are a few general things. Background music is generally a good idea, but only say, between "sections" of the podcast. Music when people are speaking is annoying. A section on news would be a plus, as I find it's sometimes more enjoyable to listen to the news. If, indeed you do attempt podcasting homilies, make sure to use a good microphone and have the volume of the audio file set at a responable level!!!! Even though podcasts are usually low bitrate, barely voice quality MP3 audio files, I find that many suffer from being inaudible. As a last, unrelated comment, that fact I can't see your post above the comment form is freaking annoying.

ARG!

It's also rather annoying that you can't _edit_ posts.
